Dr. Nikolaos I. Simantiras

Profile

Dr. Nikolaos I. Simantiras is Assistant Professor of Public Law, especially Constitutional Law, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Law, and an attorney at the Supreme Courts of Greece.

His practice focuses on national and European public law and business regulation, as well as litigation. He has broad experience advising private corporations, state-owned companies and government bodies across a wide range of sectors, including energy, telecommunications, the defence industry, capital markets and banking supervision, aviation and transport, healthcare, advertising and professional sports.

Bilingual in Greek and German, he graduated from the German School of Athens, Dörpfeld-Gymnasium. He studied law in Athens and at the University of Essex, and earned an LL.M., with public business law as his area of specialisation, at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, where he also taught constitutional law. He teaches and writes in Greek, German and English.

He was awarded his doctorate (Dr. iur.) summa cum laude by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for a thesis in European public law, published by Mohr Siebeck as Netzwerke im europäischen Verwaltungsverbund. The thesis examines complex, polycentric and multi-level governance structures in the European Union as well as the judicial protection against hybrid and transnational decision-making processes.
